Project Title: Composites with modified surface optical properties for space applications
Project Description:
The main objective of the project is to develop a new composite material with modified optical properties of the surface for space applications. The composite will be developed in two versions: the first type will have the minimum reflectance, and the second type will have the maximum reflectance in the visible and infrared spectrum. The advantage of newly developed materials will be mainly in new features and properties in the field of protective coatings consisting of thin films and nanolayers applied to composites, which are the high demanded characteristics for space products. The project aims to achieve TRL 4/5 for new composite material with modified optical properties of the surface for space applications. The developed materials contain several sub-technologies. Specifically, the composite technology (5M), design, simulation and modeling (Sobriety), surface modification and thin film technology (TTS), inspection and testing for space (VZLU). The product is multidisciplinary in nature and can be develop only in close cooperation with co-investigators. All key technologies and activities are available in individual co-investigators. For each branch one co-investigator was selected. The team of investigators follow up the space activities, research, development and production of space materials, structures, or testing. Composites are the progressive technologies and development in modification of the optical properties of surfaces is an automatic step towards bringing new innovative features and added value to commercial products.
