Project Title: INnovative Actuation Concepts for Engine/Pylon/Wing Separation FLOw Control (Design, Build and Wind Tunnel Test) (INAFLOWT)
Project Description:
The objective of the INAFLOWT project is to use combinations of existing active flow control (AFC) concepts to generate a more aerodynamic efficient and reliable AFC system. The proposed concepts of active boundary layer control will be investigated using both CFD simulations and wind tunnel measurements. The most promising concept will be tested, integrated as real-scale prototypes in a large wind tunnel model representative of the ultra-high bypass ratio (UHBR) engine/pylon/wing/high-lift system configuration, at realistic Reynolds number, to prove results in near industrial environment. Testing will take place in the wind tunnel of Russian TsAGI.
VZLU will participate in CFD simulations leading to the design of a new means for influencing the boundary layer. Furthermore, the results of CFD simulations will be used to design the surface boundary conditions simulating the influence of AFC on the surrounding current field. The design of the model for wind tunnel experiment at University of Tel Aviv (TAU) is carried by this university with partial assistance of designers from VZLU Aerodynamics Department.
The INAFLOWT European project belongs to the joint technology initiative JTI Clean Sky 2.
