Project Title: Advanced Concepts for Aero-Structures with Integrated Antennas and Sensor (ACASIAS)
Project Description:
The main goal of the ACASIAS project is to contribute to reducing the energy consumption of future generation aircraft by improving aerodynamic performance and integrating new efficient propulsion systems such as CROR engines (Contra-Rotating Open Rotor). ACASIAS project is focused on design and development of aircraft structures with multifunctional capabilities, in which the work will focus mainly on the development of composite reinforced fuselage panel with integrated SATCOM antenna system, fuselage panel with integrated sensors and CROR noise reduction systems, “smart” winglet with integrated blade antenna and FML (Fiber Metal Laminate) panel with integrated VHF antenna communication slot.
Strength of Structure department at VZLU participates in defining criteria and creating data for estimating the behaviour of structures, designing and conducting experiments and virtual multi-physical tests with a focus on winglet and fuselage panels. The Aerodynamics department at VZLU provides CFD calculations aimed at the effect of the integrated fuselage and winglet antenna on aerodynamic drag and load.
The ACASIAS is a project of the European Horizon 2020 program.
